Hamden State Rep. Holder-Winfield Drops Out Of New Haven Mayoral Race

Instead of running, Gary Holder-Winfield has endorsed State Sen. Toni Harp.

Gary Holder-Winfield, a state representative whose district includes Hamden, announced this week that he is dropping out of the New Haven mayoral race.

Holder-Winfield, a democrat, originally said he was running for mayor of New Haven after longtime incumbent John DeStefano announced he would not seek re-election this November. But this week he announced he was dropping out of the race, and endorsed Toni Harp, according to the New Haven Register.

Holder-Winfield represents the 94th Assembly District, which includes parts of Hamden and New Haven. Holder-Winfield was first elected to the General Assembly in 2008 and previously was enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
