Hamden Student Sworn In To CT Kid Governor’s Cabinet

A Hamden elementary school student has been elected to the Connecticut Kid Governor's Cabinet for the first time, according to officials.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden elementary school student has been elected to the new Connecticut Kid Governor’s Cabinet.

Waterbury’s Keudy Martinez was inaugurated as Connecticut’s new Kid Governor on Friday, along with his Cabinet.

“For the first time, a Hamden kid was elected to the Cabinet,” Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett wrote in a post on Facebook. “Congratulations Dominic DeVincentis from Helen St. School. We're proud of you!”

Martinez, who was elected by Connecticut’s fifth-graders, ran on a three-point platform addressing school safety:

1. Help stop bullying by supporting your classmates and reporting unsafe behavior.

2. Encourage 5th graders to start mental health awareness groups or clubs in their schools.

3. Promote buddy systems in schools to make sure no one feels alone.

The Cabinet will meet monthly to advise Martinez, discuss how they can support his campaign platform in their own communities, and collaborate as they advance their own three-point platforms, according to a post on the Connecticut Kid Governor website.

DeVincentis also ran on a platform that focuses on school safety.
