Hamden Transfer Station To Close For Repairs
Officials are advising residents that the Hamden Transfer Station will be closed for one day next week for repairs.
HAMDEN, CT — Officials are advising residents that the Hamden Transfer Station will be closed for one day next week for repairs.
The Hamden Transfer Station, located at 231 Wintergreen Avenue, will be closed to the public on Wednesday, July 30 for scheduled repairs and will reopen at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 31.
The Hamden Transfer Station’s regular hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., and the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Residential Bulk Trash Pick-Up

Effective January 1, 2025, a new method of collecting residential bulk trash by appointment-only was implemented. Residents may receive two free appointment-only bulk trash pick-ups per fiscal year, from July 1 to June 30; for example, the current period runs from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
To schedule a bulk trash pick-up, Hamden residents should complete the online form at www.allamericanwaste.com/hamden-bulk-pick-up-request or contact All American Waste at 203-503-3782. Requests must be made no later than 1 p.m. on the day prior to your regular trash collection day. Please ensure your bulk trash is placed at the curb for collection before 6 a.m.
Reuse and Donation Resources
Reusing items is better than recycling. Our Recycling Coordinator, Joe DeRisi, offers these suggestions for items you think are reusable:
- List your item(s) on social media for free;
- Bay State Textiles (baystatetextiles.com) has drop-off containers at Keefe Community Center, Miller Memorial Library, Whitneyville Library, Brundage Community Library, and the Hamden Transfer Station to accept clean & dry footwear, clothing, accessories, linens, and stuffed animals;
- Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven ReStore (habitatgnh.org/restore) in Wallingford will accept donations of furniture, appliances, cabinets, vanities, building materials, flooring, plumbing items, lighting, tools, and other household items (habitatgnh.org/restore/acceptable-donations-for-our-restore);
- The Goodwill Outlet Store at 2901 State Street in Hamden will accept donations of clothing, accessories, electronics, and other household items (goodwill.org/donors/donate-stuff);
- The Salvation Army Thrift Store & Donation Center at 1359 Dixwell Avenue in Hamden will accept donations of clothing, furniture, automobiles, appliances, and other household items (satruck.org); and
