Hamden's Cyr Quickly Becoming A Diving Star At Cal

Peter Cyr, a Hamden High School graduate, finally had his breakout performance for the University of California's diving team this summer.

The New Haven Register reports that the college sophomore finished in fifth-place in the 3-meter springboard and third in the synchronized 3-meter springboard with partner Tommy Selby at the Zone D Championships last month. The victory means Cyr will participate in the AT&T Senior National Diving Champions this month, a huge achievement considering his struggles his first year at Cal.

“That meet got me back into it,” Cyr told the newspaper. “I was looking to make a statement and I did. This was my goal for the summer. It’s very satisfying. “
