Hamden's Katie Skeeles Earns Girl Scouts' Highest Honor, The Gold Award

Recently, Hamden Girl Scout Katie Skeeles earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, described as the most prestigious award that a Girl Scout can earn.

Skeeles earned the award for fighting against bullying. Specifically, she created an anti-bullying club at Hamden High School and an anti-bullying curriculum for a local camp.

The club, which Skeeles started, meets once-a-month at Hamden High School, where members participate in anti-bullying skits and create anti-bullying collages on what bullying means to them. The club still meets at the school.

Skeeles also designed and presented the anti-bullying curriculum to a local camp, which absorbed it as part of its program. Now, students in grades three, four and five who attend the camp attend the program over a three-day period.

Skeeles is now studying interior design at the Wentworth Institute of Technology. For more information, click here.
