When officers arrived, they found Edward Wright lying in the doorway, Smith said, with a single gunshot wound in his back. Hamden Fire Rescue treated him at the scene and he was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Smith said.

Officers found that Wright had parked his car at the corner of Winchester Avenue and Mill Rock Road, and as he was walking to the Mill Rock Road home he heard a gunshot, Smith said. He started running but was struck by a second gunshot, he told police, and collapsed in the doorway.
