Man Sentenced In Sexual Assault At Quinnipiac Dorm In Hamden
The man was accused of sexually assaulting a woman when she was "physical helpless," according to officials.
HAMDEN, CT — A Berlin man has been sentenced to serve two-and-a half years in prison in connection with the sexual assault of a woman in a dorm room at Quinnipiac University in Hamden in 2020, according to officials.
Daniel Cervoni, 23, was found guilty in November by a jury in New Haven Superior Court of one count of second-degree sexual assault.
“Evidence at trial showed the defendant sexually assaulted a woman in a dormitory on the campus of Quinnipiac University while she was physically helpless,” according to a news release from the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice. “Evidence established that Cervoni, the victim, and three other individuals were visiting a mutual friend in the dormitory after a night out in New Haven. During the night, the defendant was observed by witnesses engaging in sexual intercourse with the physically helpless victim.”

Officials said that at the time of the assault, both the defendant and the victim were not students at Quinnipiac.
Cervoni was sentenced Feb. 15 by New Haven Superior Court Judge Peter L. Brown to 10 years in prison, suspended after two-and-a half years served, followed by 15 years of probation.

Brown also ordered a standing criminal protective order in that Cervoni is to have no contact with the victim, and ruled that since the conviction in Connecticut is a sexually violent offense, Cervoni must register with the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry for the remainder of his life, according to New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle Jr.
