Obituary: David F. Flynn, 90, of Hamden

David worked 40 years as a conductor with Metro North and was a dedicated member of the New Haven Gaelic Football and Hurling Club.

HAMDEN, CT - (From Sisk Brothers Funeral Home) David F. Flynn of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at the age of 90.

He was the beloved husband of 66 years to Agnes (Sheehan) Flynn. David was born in Glencullare, Tarbert, Co. Kerry, Ireland on January 14, 1931. He was the son of the late Maurice and Mary Ann (Dowling) Flynn.

As a young man he worked on the family farm, before moving to England, where he worked in construction. After leaving England, he came to the United States where he worked in the railroad system.

He started as a brakeman in the freight yards and ended his 40-year career as a Conductor with Metro North.

He was a member of the New Haven Gaelic Football and Hurling Club and a parishioner of St. Rita's Church.

David was the loving father of the late Lt. Colonel Steven ((Marianne) Flynn of Atwater, CA, and is survived by William (Karen) Flynn of North Haven, and John (Doreen) Flynn of Northford. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Rachel, Steven, Daniel, Kaitlyn, Sarah, and Courtney, as well as 7 great-grandchildren.

e is also survived by his brothers William and Father Maurice Flynn, and his sister Catherine, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers John, Patrick, Stephen, Michael, and his sisters Maureen, Margaret, and Ellen.

Friends and family may call on Friday, January 14, 2022, at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden from 9:30-10:30.

His funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St Rita's Church, 1620 Whitney Ave. Hamden. His burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
