Hamden has been selected to receive comprehensive energy information and services through the launch of ‘Energize Hamden,’ a limited-time opportunity for residents that runs from June 1 through Sept. 30 as part of the Energize Connecticut initiative.
Hamden residents that sign-up for a Home Energy Solutions energy efficiency evaluation will be eligible to receive rebates, reduced pricing, and special financing on energy efficiency measures and products.
The Energize Hamden effort will be kicked off today at 4 p.m. during a ceremony in the third floor conference room of the Hamden Government Center located at 2750 Dixwell Ave. Special guests include Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson; Katie Dykes, Deputy Commissioner, Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection; Ben Healy, Senior Manager, Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority and Patrick McDonnell, Director, Conservation Load and Management Programs, The United Illuminating Company.

Residents who take advantage of the ‘Energize Hamden’ opportunity will receive home energy assessments from certified professionals who will assess the home and provide measures for immediate savings on home energy bills. Participants can expect typical energy savings of an average of $200 per year, though savings can be significantly higher when customers take additional permanent measures to save energy. The Town of Hamden is providing qualified vendors to bring high efficiency insulation and high efficiency heating and cooling equipment to participating residents at special discounted prices.
In addition, homes near existing gas mains can be evaluated for the opportunity to convert to natural gas and learn about the associated savings. If gas is available in a particular area, residents will receive information on fuel choices and gas equipment financing options.

With the ‘Energize Hamden’ launch, rebates are offered through the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and low-interest loans are offered through the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority.
“These opportunities mean that Hamden residents will find that increasing the efficiency of their homes and lowering their utility bills is more achievable and affordable than ever before,” said Daniel C. Esty, DEEP Commissioner.
“We are excited to launch this partnership with the utilities, the state and the town of Hamden to bring residents affordable opportunities to improve the performance of their homes and to switch to a cleaner, cheaper heating fuel. Join your neighbors so you can save money today and in the future by reducing your energy costs through smart investments in your home,” said Katie Dykes, DEEP Deputy Commissioner for Energy. “Most importantly, when neighbors take action as a community we show the home performance professionals and local lending institutions that the Town of Hamden is a great place to do business.”
‘Energize Hamden’ not only helps those who participate in the programs, it also benefits the whole community. Each time a resident participates in the Home Energy Solutions program, a donation will be made to the Hamden Community Fund throughout the duration of the ‘Energize Hamden’ campaign. One hundred dollars will be donated towards the Hamden Community Fund for the first 100 participants that sign up for the service, $50 for the next 50 participants and $25 for every resident participating thereafter.
“Thanks to the Energize Connecticut initiative and a number of town residents, including our Energy Use and Climate Change Commission, we are uniquely positioned to lead our Hamden residents into a smart energy future, and the Energize Hamden effort is an excellent way to get them started on home energy efficiency,” said Mayor Scott Jackson. “This is a rare opportunity to take advantage of the program and utilize the special rebates and savings to get our homes operating most efficiently.
“It’s exciting to get behind a community initiative that will improve the comfort and safety of Hamden homes, helping our residents to save money on their energy bills while improving upon needs within our town,” Jackson said.
