Police: Gun Goes Off During Robbery Saturday Night

A New Haven man was injured when two men robbed his bicycle Saturday night behind a New Haven liquor store located on the Hamden line.

Hamden Police are searching for two men who allegedly robbed a man drinking behind a local liquor store.

At about 9:30p.m. Saturday Hamden Police responded to the area of Shelton Avenue on the report of an armed street robbery, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

Officers learned that a 45-year-old New Haven man was drinking alcoholic beverages behind Chapman’s Liquor Store, which is on Shelton Avenue just over the New Haven line, when he was attacked by two men, Smith said.

One of the individuals, described as a black male about 5’10”, hit him in the jaw with a gun, which discharged a round upon impact, Smith said. The suspects then stole his bicycle, he said.

Hamden Fire Rescue treated the victim at the scene before he was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with facial injuries, Smith said.
