Student Spotlight: Achievements of Hamden Residents

Julia Hvoslef of Hamden recently received the Outstanding Senior Award at the Senior Awards Ceremony at Quinnipiac University.

The Outstanding Senior Award is presented to students who have distinguished themselves by their service, dedication and contribution to Quinnipiac.

Kuwabo Mubyana, of Hamden, recently won the Beta Beta Beta Award at Quinnipiac University's Senior Awards Ceremony.

The biology honor society local chapter presents this award to the graduating senior, majoring in the biological sciences, who has attained the highest academic standing.

Jeremi Yakerson of Hamden is a member of the Stevenson University class of 2017 to campus.

Lindsay Tyler, a resident of Hamden, was recently inducted into Providence College's chapter of Psi Chi, the national honor society for Psychology. Tyler is pursuing a degree in Psychology.

Dipesh Khanal of Hamden recently won the Orville J. Sweeting Memorial Chemistry Award at Quinnipiac University's Senior Award Ceremony.

This award, in memory of Orville J. Sweeting, former faculty member and Quinnipiac provost, is presented to a graduating senior who has exhibited outstanding achievement in both the academic and senior research setting in chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences.

A total of 50 Stonehill College students are working with 32 faculty members on a variety of research projects over this summer, and Hamden native Alexander Tavares, a sophomore at the college, is working with Bronwyn Bleakley, Assistant Professor of Biology and two other students on Mechanisms of Indirect Genetic Effects. Using inbred strains of guppies (Poecilia reticulata).

Tavares is a Biology major at the college.

Alexis Vieira of Hamden recently won the Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School, BRAMS, Scholar Award at Quinnipiac University's Senior Awards Ceremony.

This award is presented annually to a graduating senior who is a part of  Quinnipiac University's Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School Partnership. Award recipients are selected based on academic achievement.
