Town Offers Rear Yard Trash and Recycling Pickup for Disabled Residents

For residents with disabilities who have trouble bringing their trash and recyclables to the curb, the town may be able to help.

Rear Yard Trash and Recycling Pickup is available for residents who are eligible to participate.

Rear Yard Pickup is defined as trash and recycling receptacles placed away from the curb for town residences. Rear Yard Eligibility is defined as residences where all occupants of the dwelling unit are disabled. Disabled means that the individual(s) are unable to move the recycling bin or trash container to the curb for collection because of a present and continuing physical disability or limitation.

The Rear Yard Pickup Program has been in existence since 2005 for residents who have reached a point where some assistance is required. Over the next several days, residents who are currently on the Rear Yard list will be receiving correspondence regarding re-qualification requirements. Residents are asked to forward the requested documentation to the Town Attorney's Office as quickly as possible to avoid interruption in service.

Any resident who is not currently on the Rear Yard list and would like to be considered for participation in the program is asked to telephone Patty Lujick, Paralegal, Town Attorney's Office at 203-287-7050 for information regarding qualifications.
