Two Bridgeport Residents Charged in Car Break-In

Police have arrested a Bridgeport couple in connection with an early-morning car break-in that happened Monday morning.

At about 3:30 a.m. Monday police got a report of a burglary in progress in the area of Myra Road, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith. 

When they got there, officers found that someone had broken into the front passenger window of a car parked in the driveway of a Myra Road home, Smith said.

The suspects had taken off in a car, he said, and moments later Lt. Michael McNeil saw the car and stopped it on Davis Street near Hartford Turnpike.

"The motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of numerous burglar tools, including a pry bar," Smith said. Both the driver, Jason Batts, 39, of 1738 North Ave., Bridgeport, and passenger, Christina Gifford, 48, of 175 Pennsylvania Ave., Bridgeport, were taken into custody.

Batts was charged with criminal attempt to commit third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools. He was held in lieu of $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 13.

Gifford was charged with conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit third-degree criminal mischief. She was released after posting a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 13.
