Waterbury Man Charged in Home Depot Robbery

A Waterbury man is facing robbery charges after he allegedly tried to leave Home Depot with plumbing equipment he didn't pay for, according to police.

At about 11 a.m. Friday morning Hamden Police got a report of a robbery at the Dixwell Avenue home improvement store, according to spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

A man, identified as Alvin Norfleet, 56, of 215 Tudor St., Waterbury, tried to leave the store with about $100 worth of plumbing equipment when a security guard chased him down, Smith said.

Norfleet struggled with the guard, who injured his hands and feet in the mele, Smith said. Norfleet then took off down Dixwell Avenue but was soon captured by Sgt. John Sullivan after a foot pursuit, Smith said.

Norfleet was charged with third-degree robbery, second-degree larceny and interfering with a police officer. He was held in lieu of $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on May 10.
