Airplane Cop Helps Nab Accused Fentanyl Dealer In Hartford: Police

The 56-year-old suspect from Hartford was caught up in a sweep targeting gun violence and narcotics in the city.

HARTFORD, CT — Helped by police in the sky, a Hartford man has been accused of dealing fentanyl after being caught up last week in a city sweep targeting gun violence and narcotics.

According to Connecticut State Police, Jose Ramirez, 56, of Hartford, was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell on Thursday, June 26.

Ramirez was released on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court July 18.

According to state police, detectives from the Connecticut State Police Bureau of Special Investigations June 26, worked in conjunction with detectives from the Hartford Police Department in efforts to curb gun violence and narcotics trafficking in Hartford.

The State Police Aviation Unit provided surveillance assistance to detectives on the ground during this operation, which led to the arrest of three individuals on various charges.

Hartford police retained the investigation for two of these cases, and the third was investigated by CSP personnel.

At approximately 12:56 pm, a hand-to-hand narcotics transaction was observed in plain view on Wethersfield Avenue in Hartford, police said.

Detectives followed the vehicle associated with the transaction and initiated a traffic stop, according to state police.

The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle was positively identified as Ramirez, police said, who was found to have approximately 20 grams of suspected fentanyl.

According to police, the suspected narcotics, along with numerous packaging items, were seized as evidence.
