Bloomfield Girls Dominate Indoor Track State Open

The Warhawks more than doubled the point total of runner-up Glastonbury; a hurdler from East Hartford High School also won a state title.

NEW HAVEN, CT — For the fourth time since 2017, the girls indoor track team from Bloomfield High School brought home the gold, winning the State Open with a dominating performance at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.

The Warhawks placed first in five individual events to compile 95 points, more than double the 47 of runner-up Glastonbury. Naugatuck was a distant third with 26, while Windsor and Conard tied for fourth with 22.

Vanessa Agyemang was a dual champion for Bloomfield, winning the 55 meter hurdles and the long jump. Three Warhawk relay teams also were first to cross the finish line: 4 x 200 (Saphyr Brown, Kiylah Williams, Nacquelia Fletcher, Caleah Baker), 4 x 400 (D'Asia Duncan, Williams, Soleigh Dixon, Jahniya Barclay) and 1600 sprint medley (Fletcher, Indya Norman, Dixon, Duncan).

A local athlete experiencing victory on the boys' side was Davian Johnson of East Hartford High School, who won the 55 meter hurdles.
