East Hartford High School Wrestlers Succeed At State Open Championship

A pair of Hornets won State Open championships in their respective weight classes, while a third finished runner-up.

NEW HAVEN, CT — On the strength of two champions and six overall placewinners, the East Hartford High School wrestling team placed third at the CIAC State Open Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.

The Hornets compiled 134 points, narrowly missing second place by just three points to Newtown. Xavier won the event for the fourth straight season, and Fairfield Warde and Ridgefield rounded out the top five.

Weight class champions for East Hartford were Jaeckez Mendez (132 lbs.) and Dravyn Roberts (165). Runners-up were Isaac Quiles (132) and Yaxier Rivera (157).
