East Hartford Man Drove Drunk On Wrong Side Of Highway: Police

The incident happened in Colchester early Saturday morning, according to state police on Tuesday.

COLCHESTER/EAST HARTFORD, CT — Connecticut State Police said an East Hartford man was driving the wrong way, drunk, on a state highway in Colchester on Saturday.

According to Connecticut State Police on Tuesday, Jorge Jimenez, 50, of East Hartford, was charged Saturday, April 26, with operating under the influence of alcohol/drugs; failure to maintain lane; and driving the wrong-way on a limited access highway.

Jimenez was released on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court May 20.

According to police, at approximately 12:38 a.m., troopers were dispatched to Route 11 in the town of Colchester for a reported wrong-way driver.

The vehicle was reported to be traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.

Troopers located the vehicle and were able to safely conduct a motor vehicle stop.

Police said troopers detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage from Jimenez and noticed his eyes were bloodshot and glossy.

In addition, according to police, open beer cans were located inside the vehicle that Jimenez was driving.

As a result, Jimenez was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests which he failed, police said.

Jimenez was then taken into custody and transported to Troop K for processing.
