Hartford Man Charged With Murder for August Shooting: Police

Police said the 22-year-old suspect shot and killed a 25-year-old victim outside a Hartford gas station.

HARTFORD, CT — A Hartford man has been charged with shooting and killing a 25-year-old man last August at a local gas station.

According to the Hartford Police Department, the suspect has been identified as CourtneyByrd, 22, of Hartford, and he was charged with felony murder, carrying a pistol, and without a permit.

Police said he is being held on $950,000 bond.

Members of the Major Crimes Division, Street Crimes Unit, and Violent Crimes Unit located and apprehended Byrd on Thursday, Oct. 23, and took him into custody without incident, police said.

On Aug. 24 at approximately 1:42 a.m., Hartford police responded to a gas station at 3250 Main St. for a report of a person shot.

Officers located an unresponsive male suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"Through a thorough investigation by the Major Crimes Division and Crime Scene Division, detectives developed a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant," wrote the HPD on Thursday.

"This arrest underscores the commitment of the Hartford Police Department to pursue justice for victims of violent crime through teamwork, persistence, and professionalism across multiple specialized units."
