Hartford Opening Up Rec Center To Be Cold-Weather Shelter
It will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday due to expected dangerously cold conditions.
HARTFORD, CT — The City of Hartford Friday announced it will be temporarily opening the Arroyo Recreation Center to serve as a warming center.
It will do so during the day on Saturday, Dec. 24, Sunday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Dec. 26, due to extreme weather conditions this weekend. The center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. all three days.

The Arroyo Recreation Center is located at Pope Park, 30 Pope Park Drive.
“This storm is bringing extremely cold weather, strong winds, and a lot of rain, so we're keeping Arroyo Recreation Center at Pope Park open during the daytime,” said Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin.

“I encourage all of our residents who need a warm place to be during this cold weekend to go over to the Arroyo Center, and I wish all of our residents a safe, happy holiday weekend.”
Snacks and a hot lunch will be served on all three days.
Hartford residents seeking an overnight warming center should visit 110 Washington St., which will be open 24 hours a day beginning at 6 p.m. Friday and lasting until the end of cold weather protocols.
