Hartford PD 'Buying Back' Unwanted Guns From People
The Hartford Police Department this weekend is exchanging gift cards for weapons to try and get guns off the streets.
HARTFORD, CT — The Hartford Police Department is "buying back" firearms in the hopes of taking as many weapons off the streets as possible.
And those participating might walk away Saturday, Nov. 1, with a special gift.
The HPD is hosting its "Gun Buyback & Safe Giveaway" on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 50 Jennings Road.

This is the fifth annual Connecticut Statewide Gun Buyback and Gun Safe Giveaway Day.
For those turning in guns, it is 100 percent anonymous, and no ID is even required.

In return, folks will receive gift cards while supplies last in exchange for the weapons.
Meanwhile, the HPD said free gun safes are available for pistol permit holders.
"Let’s work together to keep our homes and neighborhoods safe," wrote the Hartford PD.
