New Sports Bar/Gambling Facility To Open In Hartford Today

HARTFORD, CT — The current home to University of Connecticut men's and women's basketball, as well as Hartford Wolfpack hockey, will officially become home today to some wagering as well.

Gov. Ned Lamont Monday evening is expected at the new XL Center Sports Bar and Sportsbook, which is a venture of the Connecticut Lottery Corp. and the Capital Region Development Authority.

He will be there, according to the governor's office, to preside over the grand opening of a new sports bar and wagering facility there.

Seen as a means to boost activity downtown and at the XL Center, the new facility has more than 80 televisions and a 100-foot-long video wall to track sports betting, which recently became legal in the state.

The grand opening ceremony is slated for 6 p.m. at the XL Center in the heart of the city. The entrance to the site is on the corner of Church Street and Ann Uccello Street.

According to the XL Center's website, the site is 5,000 square feet and also features 40 beers on tap as well as a "mouthwatering menu," featuring traditional bar fare.

The site will be open seven days a week, from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
