Popular Beer Taproom Shutting Down In Hartford

The brewing company, however, will still be making, selling and distributing its beer in area stores and restaurants.

HARTFORD, CT — A popular Park Street taproom is shutting down, though its owners say their beer-making and beer-distribution business is still going strong.

Owned by Ben and Joy Braddock, the Hog River Brewing Co. opened seven years ago at 1429 Park St. in Hartford's up-and-coming Parkville neighborhood, offering a well-known taproom where folks could gather, meet and enjoy a diverse variety of local craft microbrews.

But the post-Covid challenges that have ravaged the restaurant and hospitality industry also impacted Hog River and that, combined with a rent increase by Hog River's landlord, has the Braddocks looking for a "forever home."

One thing, though, is Hog River's line of beers will still be made and they'll still be available at stores and restaurants throughout the state.

"Yes, we are moving on from our taproom. BUT we are not going away. You will still find our beer at package stores, grocery stores, restaurants, bars, event venues…you name it! We hope to be in more places close to you by the end of the year," wrote the Braddocks on social media.

In the meantime, Hog River thanked customers and community members for their support in recent years.

"We have the BEST customers out there! And we hope you'll continue your loyal support as we venture through this transition. We'll need your love and support of Hog River more than ever to help us move onto that forever home," wrote the Braddocks.

Until the final day, the taproom's hours are limited, with Sunday, April 30 being the final day.
