Regional Food Drive To Benefit Pantries In 15 Area Towns

A prominent credit union serving several central Connecticut communities is hosting a summer food drive that ends this Saturday, Aug. 16.

East Hartford-based American Eagle Financial Credit Union is conducting its annual "summer food insecurity relief initiative," combining a $50,000 donation and a community-wide food drive to support 16 local nonprofits.

Food pantries benefiting are from Avon, Windsor, Cromwell, East Hartford, Enfield, Glastonbury, Hartford, Manchester, Newington, North Haven, Plainville, South Windsor, Southington, Vernon, and West Hartford.

“American Eagle is thrilled to work alongside Connecticut Foodshare and Midwest Foodbank to help address food insecurity in the communities we serve,” said American Eagle President & Chief Executive Officer Howard Brady. “Summer is a critical time for food pantries, when demand rises and donations tend to fall. We are committed to doing our part to help close the gap.”

In addition to contributions made to Connecticut Foodshare, Midwest Foodbank and Food Bank of Western Mass., American Eagle has identified 16 local organizations to support.

Each of these nonprofits will receive non-perishable food collected at American Eagle branches and a check for $2,500:

· Glastonbury Gives Food Pantry (Glastonbury)

· MANNA Community Pantry(Hartford)

· Community Food Pantry at Health Collective East (Manchester)

· Newington Human Services Food Pantry (Newington)

· North Haven Food Bank (North Haven)

· Plainville Community Food Pantry (Plainville)

· The Bridge (South Windsor)

· Southington Community Services Food Pantry(Southington)

· Cornerstone Food Cupboard (Vernon)

· West Hartford Food Pantry (West Hartford)

Food collection is currently taking place at American Eagle’s administrative offices in East Hartford, as well as all branch locations.
