Well-Known Hartford Restaurant's Last Day Is Wednesday, July 3

The site will close and become home to a parking garage that is part of a children's hospital expansion project.

HARTFORD, CT — A popular Hartford eatery whose closure was announced in January now has a firm date for its last meal served and that day is this week.

The well-known J Restaurant/Bar, located at 297 Washington St., Hartford, announced Sunday that its last day of operations will be Wednesday, July 3.

The final day of its regular menu was Saturday, June 29, with the eatery closed the next day and a limited menu taking over for July 1-3, the restaurant reported last month.

According to the restaurant, the property will be sold to LAZ Parking, which plans to build a parking garage at the site.

The eatery is close to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center children's hospital, which is undergoing a major expansion, with the parking garage part of that.

It offers upscale dining options, with a leaning toward traditional gourmet cuisine such as steaks, fish, and artisan pizzas.

With a firm closure date now finalized, the restaurant issued a statement thanking everyone for years of service and patronage dating back to 1970.

"Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to our customers for your continued support during this process. It is our hope to have a few pop-up events throughout the summer, which we will post on social media," wrote J Restaurant/Bar Sunday.

"We also want to thank our past and present employees for making for an amazing 54 years, we could not have done it without you all."
