Car Strikes Bicyclist in Ledyard; Police Investigating

A bicyclist was hospitalized after he was struck by a car on Route 117 in Ledyard Thursday, Jan. 22.

Leydard Police are investigating a Jan. 22 car accident that occurred on Route 117, in which a car driven by Oakdale resident Clarence Pryzbyl struck bicyclist Christopher Takacs of Ledyard.

Pryzbyl, 82, was traveling south in the proper travel lane on Route 117, police said. Takacs, 38, was traveling north in the southbound travel lane towards Pryzbyl’s car. He reportedly applied his brakes hard but “was unable to avoid striking the bicyclist.”

Takacs was initially transported to Backus Hospital for treatment of his injuries and later transferred to Hartford Hospital. Pryzbyl was not injured but his vehicle was towed from the scene, according to police.

“There was no precipitation or road conditions that contributed to the cause of the accident,” police said.
