Dehumidifier Catches on Fire in Gales Ferry

Gales Ferry Fire Company and Ledyard firefighters responded to Robinhood Drive for a report of a fire in a home.

At approximately 10:15 p.m. Sunday, May 8, the Gales Ferry Volunteer Fire Company and Ledyard Fire Company were called to a Robinhood Drive residence, after receiving a report of a possible structure fire.

"Units arrived on scene to find a light smoke condition in the residence, and upon further investigation discovered a dehumidifier on fire," Gales Ferry Fire Co. said. "The unit was quickly removed from the structure and extinguished while other crews checked for fire extension and ventilated the structure."

Ladder 25, Engine 21, Tanker 24 and Rescue 27 responded and operated for just over an hour. The Ledyard Fire Marshal's Office is investigating and no injuries have been reported.
