Development, Affordable Housing Proposed for Norwich Hospital Land
Regulations for the lot are flexible and could be adopted by the end of the summer.

Housing, restaurants, retail and commercial development may soon be allowed in the former Norwich State Hospital land, which has been dubbed the Thames River Design District.
People have been writing regulations for developing the land for the past six months and the project is nearing completion. The new regulations may be adopted as soon as August, according to an article in The Day.
The regulations are reported to be “extremely flexible” and there are many permitted uses. The Day article also said that no more than 30 percent of each parcel sold in the should be dedicated to housing and if housing is developed it should be dedicated as affordable housing. There are 393 acres of hospital property and 53 adjoining acres available to develop.
