Fugitive From Justice Found in Gales Ferry
A 33-year-old woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Suffolk, N.Y.
At approximately 11 a.m. Monday, March 29, the Ledyard Police Detective and Patrol Divisions, with the assistance of the Regional Community Enhancement Task Force, located Heather Schmitt, 33, at 15 Ridge Rd., Gales Ferry.
Schmitt had a valid arrest warrant out of Suffolk County Police Department in Suffolk, N.Y., according to Ledyard Police. The Suffolk County Police Department was contacted and confirmed they possessed an arrest warrant for Schmitt and indicated they would extradite back to Suffolk County.
Schmitt was taken into custody without incident by the Ledyard Police Department, processed and is now awaiting extradition. She was arrested as a fugitive from justice, police said.
