Ledyard Police Mourn Passing Of Retired Officer
John Craig worked for the Ledyard police department for decades.

LEDYARD, CT – A retired longtime local police officer, John Craig, has passed away, the police department announced Friday.
Craig worked for the town for 37 years. He started in July 1977 and retired in 2014 as an officer first class.
Police Chief John Rich on Friday called Craig an “exceptional public servant.”

“He had a great sense of humor and was loved by his coworkers,” Rich said. “ He was an outstanding investigator and a pioneer in traffic crash reconstruction. He will be missed by all of us at Ledyard Police Department.”
Craig served as the first certified accident reconstruction specialist in the department’s history, according to police.

Police said Craig’s work and leadership in crash reconstruction “laid the foundation” for the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit.
“He shared his expertise with fellow officers and inspired others with his passion for investigation,” the announcement said. “He was well known in the Ledyard community as an approachable officer who was always willing to help others.”
Police said Craig also will be remembered for his love for his family and for his willingness to help fellow officers both on and off duty.
