The fire was believed to have been caused by a lightning strike from the line of thunderstorms that moved through our area, officials said.
LEDYARD, CT — The Ledyard Fire Company said in a social media post that at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Ledyard Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from Eversource stating they had a lineman working on Boulder Way, who reported seeing smoke coming from a home.
Ledyard along with Gales Ferry and one engine from Mashantucket were on the initial assignment. The Ledyard Fire Chief arrived and found a smoke condition in the structure.
"First in crews found a fire in the laundry/utility room with minor extension to the attic," fire officials said. "The fire was extinguished and extensive overhaul was performed. Crews remained on scene for approximately one hour. The homeowner was not home at the time of call. The fire was believed to have been caused by a lightning strike from the line of thunderstorms that moved through our area."
