Around 8:49 this morning Daniel P. Allen crashed into a utility pole across from the post office on Ledyard.
Police say Allen, 23, of Westfield, Mass., had fallen asleep at the wheel and sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. he was transported to L+M Hospital as a precaution.
Allen was issued a written warning for failure to rive right.
The pole needs to be replaced and it will take a while. It holds electricity, cable and phone wires. The respective agencies are en route; traffic flow may be reduced at some points throughout the day but closures are not expected.
