Baby Formula Shortage Tips Shared by Senator
State Sen. Christine Cohen, D-Guilford, issues advice to parents struggling to feed their babies, says not to panic.
A state Senator from the shoreline has issued information recently for parents to address the ongling baby formula shortage that's making it tough for some parents to feed their babies.
A byproduct of supply line issues as well as the recent recall of formula made at a Michigan plant, the shortage is impacting all parents nationwide.
This week, President Joe Biden utilized wartime production measures to boost baby formula supplies.

"Parents in need are encouraged to reach out to their pediatricians," Cohen wrote in a regular newsletter she sends out. "Pediatricians often have access to formula, especially those specialty formulas that some babies require. They can also provide important advice tailored to your child’s needs.
"Doctors recommend against parents making their own formula due to risks of contamination and lack of key nutrients and have asked that parents not ration food for their babies."
Cohen said there is a temporary formula substitution document prepared by WIC to aid parents in finding alternative formula solutions while the shortage is ongoing. WIC’s state agency can be contacted at 1-800-741-2142.
Parents of young children looking to help each other have created Find My Formula CT, a Facebook group where parents can aid others in finding specific brands and types of formula on store shelves in different parts of the state.
Cohen also said shopping at smaller stores is another possible solution and is recommended; families in need should also contact community pharmacies, local food banks or milk banks for more resources in aid.
"However, the most prominent advice is to not panic – despite the challenges of this moment for already-stressed new parents, there are resources available to help," she said.
