Boy Scout Troop 494 Helps Launch Earth Day at Madison Beach Hotel

With the help of Boy Scout Troop 494 of Madison, the Madison Beach Hotel cleaned up the West Wharf dunes.

From Regan Communications Group: With the help of Boy Scout Troop 494 of Madison, the Madison Beach Hotel helped launch Earth Day Weekend by cleaning and improving the West Wharf dunes on Friday afternoon, April 21. The dunes, owned by the Town of Madison and a part of the West Wharf park, are an integral part of the shoreline ecosystem, providing protection from floodwaters and a habitat for various flora and fauna.

Jerry Verrillo, an aborist from Christensen Landscape Company, provided a presentation about invasive plant species to the scouts and supervised the removal of such plants. Shannon Scheisser of the Audubon Society supervised the scouts in planting 15 new beach grasses, donated by the Madison Beach Hotel. The hotel donated time and materials to repair and replace damaged dune fencing.

To complete the celebration of Earth Day, and in gratitude for their contribution, the hotel treated the scouts to a hot dog cookout on the beach.
