Former High School Staffer Accused Of Soliciting Minors In Madison: PD

The suspect is accused of "inappropriate electronic communications with students," according to Madison police.

MADISON, CT — A 37-year-old former Daniel Hand High School employee has been arrested following an investigation into "allegations of inappropriate electronic communications with students," according to Madison police.

Shalena Hastings was taken into custody on Friday, and was charged with:

  • Use of a Computer to Entice a Minor to Engage in Sexual Activity
  • Misrepresentation of Age to Entice a Minor
  • Risk of Injury/Impairing Morals of Children
  • Criminal Impersonation

Madison police, working with school officials, launched the investigation promptly after receiving reports of the alleged misconduct, details of which were not disclosed.

"The safety and security of our students is our highest priority," said Madison Police Capt. Jeremy Yorke in a statement. "The Madison Police Department wants to assure the public that any allegations involving the well-being of children are taken with the utmost seriousness and investigated thoroughly. We appreciate the cooperation of the school district and the community throughout this process."

Hastings was released after posting a $5,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on April 9.

Yorke said that the investigation is continuing, and the department urges anyone with additional information regarding the case to contact the Madison police at 203-245-6500.
