Latest Winter Storm Tonight Expected to Just Graze Shoreline

Just as Madison Public Schools decide to re-open after this past weekend's blizzard that dumped 2-3 feet of snow on the state, another winter storm is heading our way.

This latest system, however, is expected to move out to sea south of the state and bring just a dusting to an inch of snow to this part of state, and about 2 inches to the southern shoreline areas, according to the National Weather Service.

The system may start out as rain around 11 p.m. before changing over to snow after midnight. The remnants of the storm will clear out by afternoon on Thursady and it will turn sunny, with light winds and high temperatures in the lower 40s.

Here is the National Weather Service forecast for Madison: 

• Wednesday night: A chance of rain and snow before 9pm, then a chance of snow. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 27. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 8 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
• Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 42. North wind around 6 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
• Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 30. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph.
• Friday: A slight chance of showers after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 49. South wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
• Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming northwest after midnight.
• Saturday: A slight chance of snow showers before noon, then a slight chance of rain showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
• Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 20.
• Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 31.
• Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 15.
• Washington's Birthday: Sunny, with a high near 36.
• Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 24.
