Richard Mazzella, 46, Dies Following I-91 Overpass Crash

Richard Mazzella, the driver of the Jeep that fell 25 feet off of Windsor's Bloomfield Avenue highway overpass, has died, a Hartford Hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday morning.

The 46-year-old man who owns 25 Riverside Drive, #C2 in Clinton and is listed as also  residing in one of the properties, was transported to the hospital by Windsor Volunteer Ambulance Tuesday morning.

His SUV apparently plowed through the concrete wall of a highway overpass and crashed, overturned and caught fire. 

Mazzella may have also resided in Madison, but that is unconfirmed.

According to Windsor Police Capt. Tom LePore, the crash is currently under investigation, and the local department is working with a regional accident-reconstruction team to figure out what happened before Mazzella's Jeep left the overpass.

LePore said officials are able to tell that Mazzella exited I-91 from the northbound HOV lane, but his vehicle did not stop as it approached the Bloomfield Avenue intersection.
