Red Flags of a Scam:
  • You’re told to withdraw or wire money urgently.
  • You’re instructed not to tell anyone, especially your bank or family.
  • The caller claims to be from the police, IRS, or a company like Amazon and demands immediate payment.
  • You’re pressured to pay in gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers—these methods are nearly impossible to recover once sent.
  • The caller threatens arrest, fines, or legal trouble if you don’t comply.

What You Should Do:
STOP – Take a moment before acting.
HANG UP – If something feels off, it probably is.
VERIFY – Call the official number of the agency or business they claim to be from.
REPORT – If you think you’ve been targeted, contact the Madison Police Department.
