Visit Madison's Newest Park From 10 a.m. To 2 p.m. Saturday!

Visit Constitution Park Saturday, July 27th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  to check out Madison's newest park and ask renowned birding expert Patrick Comins anything you want to know about Connecticut birds, and why this park will play an important role in preserving habitat for those birds.

The park is located at 1362 Boston Post Road, just east of the entrance to Hammonasset Beach State Park, between Route 1 and the Hammonasset River.

Here is information about the open house from George McManus, chairman of the Park Development Committee:

An Open House is scheduled at Madison’s Constitution Park on Saturday,
July 27th between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. This is an opportunity for Madison
citizens and others to see the changes that are taking place on the old Griswold Airport property.

To date, all of the deteriorating buildings from the old airport have been removed.  About half of the land is being preserved for passive recreation and environmental protection, including a coastal forest, extensive salt marshes and a small freshwater wetland. Three multipurpose athletic fields are being constructed on the site. The entrance portion  of the Park has recently been enlarged by the State’s granting an additional 8 acres along Route 1 to the Town.  This will bring the total Park area to about 50 acres.

Mike Ott, the Town Engineer, who is overseeing the conversion of the parcel to Madison’s newest park, will be available to answer questions about the Park, as will several members of the Madison Park Development Committee.  Patrick Comins, Director of Bird Conservation for Audubon Connecticut, will be available to speak about bird habitat in the Park.
