1 Found Dead After Fire Causes Major Damage At Housing Complex In Manchester, Officials Say

17 occupants have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross, officials said.

MANCHESTER, CT — The Manchester Fire Department is investigating a fire that occurred late Saturday and one person was found dead, officials said.

At 11:01 p.m., the Manchester Fire Department responded to 109 Foster St. for an automatic fire alarm. The building is a 24-unit rooming house.

Responding companies found an apartment fire on the first floor, officials said.

"Companies initiated an aggressive interior fire attack and performed searches on all floors, ultimately rescuing three individuals that were unable to escape the building, including one via by Truck 2's Ladder," fire officials said. "One party was transported to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening condition. An additional victim was found deceased on the second floor. The fire was quickly extinguished, but the building is presently uninhabitable. 17 occupants have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. The office of the Fire Marshal is presently conducting an investigation for origin and cause.
