"5 Things You Need to Know..." About Bullying Seminars, Board of Directors Meetings and Interim Principals

A roundup of some of the news and information you need to know for Tuesday, Feb. 8.

1. In case you haven’t heard the news by now, Superintendent Kathleen Ouellette named an Monday to replace Manchester High School Principal Kevin O’Donnell, whom she placed on indefinite paid leave Jan. 7.

Gregory Ziogas, a veteran educator and administrator who spent 40 years with the Plainville School District working as a teacher, athletic director and principal, will run the high school through the end of the current school year.

 2. The Board of Directors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Lincoln Center Hearing Room. The board’s agenda is on the light end Tuesday, probably because they are preparing for a grueling month of budget workshops come April.

 3. A seminar that asks “” about bullying, originally scheduled for last Tuesday but cancelled because of inclement weather, will be held tonight in the auditorium of Manchester Memorial Hospital. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

4. , a third grade teacher with 35 years of experience in the Manchester School System, has announced her plans to retire at the end of the current school year. The news is significant because Lavey was named the system’s Teacher of the Year for the 2010-11 school year and will surely be missed by many students past and present.

5. And according to the National Weather Service, more snow…

Yup, Tuesday’s forecast calls for a breezy day with temperatures in the mid-20s and light snowfall in the morning and early afternoon, although the accumulation is not expected to be greater than an inch.
