Manchester, CT — While most people were still sleeping in or prepping their holiday meals, a dedicated group of students at The Academy of Martial Arts & Personal Development kicked off Thanksgiving morning with high energy, determination, and community spirit.

At 7:00 AM sharp, The Academy held a special Thanksgiving Cardio-Kickboxing class—an annual tradition that draws committed participants ready to start their day with strength and focus. This year’s turnout was no exception. Students of all ages lined up on the mats for a fast-paced, full-body workout designed to burn calories, build confidence, and set a positive tone for the holiday ahead.

Grandmaster Joel Waldron, owner and head instructor at The Academy, said the purpose of the Thanksgiving morning class is twofold: to offer a healthy and empowering start to the holiday, and to celebrate the discipline and dedication that define the school’s community.

“Thanksgiving is a day about gratitude, family, and taking care of each other,” Waldron said. “Starting the morning with a group of students who show up ready to push themselves reminds us what this place is all about—support, encouragement, and the belief that everyone can rise a little higher than the day before.”

Participants completed a dynamic mix of striking drills, cardio segments, strength work, and partner training. Despite the early hour, spirits were high, and the group finished the class with smiles, laughter, and a well-earned sense of accomplishment.

For many who attend each year, the Thanksgiving class has become a tradition in itself—a way to anchor the day with positivity and purpose before heading home to celebrate with loved ones.

“This class gives people a great head start on the holiday,” Waldron added. “They walk out feeling strong, energized, and proud of what they accomplished.”

The Academy offers Cardio-Kickboxing, Adult & Youth traditional martial arts, Aikido, Hapkido, Gentle Do Tai Chi, Yoga, and a wide range of youth and adult programs designed to strengthen both body and mind. New members are welcome year-round.
