Diminico Announces Candidacy for Democratic Nomination for 13th House Assembly Seat

The following is a statement from Joe Diminico, who is seeking the Democratic nominatation for the 13th House Assembly District to replace : 

Jack Thompson’s announcement that he will not seek re-election as State Representative for the 13th House Assembly District marks the close of a distinguished public career. Jack served his country as a Marine during the Korean War and ably served Manchester, first as Mayor and then in the General Assembly. He earned the respect of his colleagues and constituents because of his integrity and advocacy for children’s issues. All of the citizens of Manchester thank him for his distinguished service on our behalf and wish him well in the years ahead.

The work and causes that Jack Thompson advocated during his public career are important and must continue. While no one can pretend to fill Jack’s shoes, it is important that someone step up to carry on his work. Therefore, I will seek the Democratic nomination for the 13th House Assembly seat and in the next few days will file the papers establishing a campaign committee.

Jack Thompson said many times that there was no government program more empowering for a family than a job. I agree with that and also believe that a good education is a necessary requirement for a good job. If elected, I intend to champion jobs and education. I look forward to the campaign and the opportunity to work on behalf of the citizens of Glastonbury and Manchester as their new representative for the 13th House Assembly District.

About Joe Diminico:

Joe Diminico is a lifelong Manchester resident. He was raised with his two brothers by his mother, Josephine, an Italian immigrant. Joe attended Manchester public schools through junior high and graduated from East Catholic High School.  Joe loves athletics and played varsity basketball, baseball and golf in high school. After graduating from ECHS, Joe attended the University of Hartford. Joe then worked as a golf professional for eight years.

After leaving the golf business, Joe began a twenty-five year career with the Town of Manchester. He retired as the Program Director of the Town of Manchester Senior Center. Joe believes in giving back to the community and has served on various town boards and commissions, including: the Planning and Zoning Commission (Chairman), Board of Assessment Appeals, Manchester Housing Authority, Fair Rent Commission and Library Board.   

The voters of Manchester elected Joe to the Board of Selectman in 1993 where he continues to serve, having been re-elected in 2011 for the ninth time.
Since retiring from the Town of Manchester, Joe has worked as a Real Estate agent with Re/Max East of the River, which is based in Manchester.
Joe is the proud father of two daughters, Heather and Laura and proud grandfather of his granddaughter Julia.
