MANCHESTER, CT — A driver — and a dog — were rescued after a crash left a vehicle in a dangerous situation in Manchester fire officials said.

The single-vehicle crash took place Friday afternoon on the westbound side of Interstate 384 in the area of Highland Street, fire officials said.

The Engine 4 crew arrived at the scene first and located a vehicle about 75 ft down an embankment with heavy damage and one person trapped inside.

The driver was quickly removed and extracted up the slope in a basket and transported to a local trauma center, fire officials said. The injuries were non-life-threatening, fire officials said.

A dog was also in the vehicle and was quickly extracted by firefighters and transported to Bolton Veterinary Hospital for evaluation and treatment, fire officials said.
