MANCHESTER, CT — Keeney Street in Manchester was closed for several hours Monday because of a gas leak.

The leak was reported at 9:13 a.m. in the the area of 279 Keeney St.

Firefighters located what they called "a major gas leak," with a 12-in gas main having been punctured by construction equipment.

"The line operates at 165 PSI, which created an extremely significant leak," officials said.

Manchester fire supported a crew from Connecticut Natural Gas in mitigating and ultimately repairing the leak.

Tankers from the Glastonbury Fire Department, the Bolton Fire Department, and the Town of Coventry Fire EMS assisted with water supply.

Keeney Street remained closed into the evening hours.
