Imagine Main Street Helps to Beautify Downtown Manchester

Planters, trash containers and benches in the downtown area are getting a little color, courtesy of a private donor.

A stroll down Main Street in Manchester will reveal a colorful change to the street furnishings that line Main Street.

Planters, trash containers and benches have been painted a historic, dark green color.

In all over 35 planters, 24 trash containers and 7 benches have been transformed from plain to pretty. New trash container lids will be added as well. The painting project was envisioned and funded by a private donor and implemented by and with working with the Downtown Manchester Special Services District.

“The fresh color palette of the receptacles with the beautiful flowers gives downtown Manchester a renewed sense of vitality and possibility,” says Imagine Main Street Committee member Paula Viscogliosi.

The Downtown Districted has funded the addition of street furnishings throughout the years and is responsible for the planting and maintenance of the planters.

In recent years, Manchester’s garden clubs – the Perennial Planters and Manchester Garden Club - have helped to increase the number of planters on the street by providing funds for new planter acquisition and contributing towards the cost of spring and summer planter flowers.

Downtown District Chair Ed Firestone notes, “the fresh, new color for the street furnishings and the addition of more planters to the street really help to reinforce the sense that downtown is a unique and special place.”
