MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester Animal Control officials are asking residents to hold off on adoption requests while the investigation as to how and why a dog came to be abandoned at the Buckland Hills Walmart progresses.

Meanwhile an animal advocacy group, Desmond's Army Animal Law Advocates, is offering a reward as part of the investigation — $5,000 to be exact.

The dog is being cared for by Manchester Animal Control.

"We are receiving numerous phone calls regarding adoption," Animal Control officials said. "Please refrain from adoption inquiries at this time so that all efforts may be put into the investigation. Calls regarding adoption inquiries will not be returned at this time. If you have any information that may lead to the persons responsible, we ask that you contact the office."

The dog was located at 5 p.m. Saturday at the southern end of the Walmart lot between it and Savers, authorities said. The dig was on a curb in a crate.
