Panel Proposes Demolishing Historic Washington School
The Historic Preservation Council in Manchester wants more information on that idea.

While Manchester officials recently discussed the potential of renovating Washington Elementary School as part of a consolidation plan another board in town has offered a different suggestion: demolishing the property.
The Manchester Board of Directors and Board of Education met for a special meeting in late July to discuss a plan to bond the costs for a new fifth- and sixth-grade academy in town.Â
Everything is still in the discussion phase, however the town's School Modernization and Reinvestment Team Revisited voted earlier this year to tear down one of the district's schools, Washington Elementary School, and instead construct a new building on the property, The Hartford Courant reported.
But, the town's Historic Preservation Council said it wants a review of that idea before before it is examined further, as the Washington school is located in Manchester's Cheney Brothers National Historic Landmark District, the Courant reported.
