A pedestrian was struck and injured by a vehicle early this morning while crossing Center Street.  According to police, Kalpona Pereira, 59, of Manchester, was crossing the street in front of 344 Center Street at approximately 5:49 a.m. Thursday morning when she was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle was driven by Charmaine Gentles, 60, of Hartford.  Police say it appears Pereira was not crossing in the crosswalk. Pereira was transported by ambulance to Hartford Hospital, where she was in stable condition Thursday.  The accident remains under investigation and anyone with information or who may have witnessed it is encouraged to contact Ofc. Aaron Calkins at 860-645-5560.
