Police Reports Detail Vintage at the Grove Apartments Murder Scene

Police responded to the Vintage at the Grove Apartments complex early Saturday morning to find a victim suffering from a gunshot wound and lying in a pool of her own blood and a suspect in the parking lot crying hysterically and claiming to have shot her. 

A short time later, the 23-year old victim, Annatassia Keise was dead and the suspect, 23-year old Steve Simpson, was in custody and . 

Simpson, who resided at the complex, is being held on a $2.5 million bond and was arranged at Manchester Superior Court Monday morning. His case was transferred to Hartford and continued to Aug. 7. 

But police reports released by the court Monday shed more light on the incident, which appears to be a domestic dispute gone horribly wrong. 

According to the reports, police responded to the apartment complex located at 700 Falls View Rd. in Manchester at approximately 3:46 a.m. Saturday morning to find Keise lying on the ground in a pool of blood and surrounded by several people. Police said she was suffering from a gunshot wound to her torso and that one of the people at the scene was performing CPR on her. Published reports state that Keise resided in South Windsor. 

Police located a man matching Simpson's description provided by callers in the parking lot of the apartment complex on the ground in front of a parked car. Police instructed Simpson to place his hands behind his back, and cuffed him. According to the reports, Simpson was "crying hysterically" and stated to police "I shot her. Oh god I shot her." 

Keise was taken by ambulance to Hartford Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. 

Simpson told police that he and Keise were dating, but that they had had a disagreement the day before. Simpson said he was at the West Indian Club in Hartford with a friend, and when he arrived home to his apartment inside the complex he pulled out his gun in front of Keise's face. Simpson told police that Keise told him to put the gun away and pushed him, and that the gun went off and shot her. 

Police then searched Simpson's apartment and said they found the gun that was used on Keise, a Glock model handgun, lying on the bed and a trail of blood leading from the apartment to the parking lot.

Police said they also found a "large amount of marijuana and cash" inside Simpson's apartment.
